He denied being involved in their murders and even claimed that his wife abandoned him and fled with their two children, who he murdered. While he was administered the lie detector test, it was proven that he lied. Watts requested to have a conversation with his father, to whom he confessed to killing Shanann. Subsequently, he was convicted of all three murders.
2. Adrian Prout
Millionaire Adrian Prout was asked by his fiancée to take a lie detection test in 2012 to prove that he had no involvement in the death of his late wife, Kate Prout, who died in 2007. Based on the results of the polygraph test, showed he was involved in the murder. Instead of showing any remorse, he confessed to the murder and was sentenced to prison since the statute of limitations had not passed on the case.
3. The Jeffrey MacDonald Case
Jeffrey MacDonald is another serial killer who failed a polygraph test while being accused of brutally murdering his pregnant wife and two young daughters in their Fort Bragg, North Carolina, home. MacDonald agreed to a polygraph test during the investigations; little did he know that it would prove his guilt in the murder case. Based on the lie detector test results, it was shown that Jeffery was guilty of the murder. However, the results were deemed inconclusive evidence because of how unreliable polygraph test results can be. To date, some argue for his guilt while others for his innocence.
4. Joseph Cambron Case
The fourth killer who failed a polygraph test on our list is Joseph Cambron. In September of 2014, Joseph, who was 21 years old at the time, underwent a polygraph examination that was administered to him by Louisville detectives because he was a suspect in the murder of 12-year-old Ray Allen Etheridge. The deceased died by stabbing, and based on the results of the lie detector tests, Cambron was involved in the murder. Although the polygraph test results were inadmissible as court evidence, it encouraged Cambron to confess when confronted by investigators because the results already indicated his guilt.
5. Gary Ridgway, the Green River Killer
The last serial killer on our list is Gary Ridgway. He underwent a polygraph test early in the investigation. Into a murder case, and he passed it. However, he later confessed to the murder of these women, which led to his conviction. This shows how unreliable a polygraph test can be sometimes.
