7 Times Cats Attacked Process Servers Serving Legal Papers

Cats Attacked Process Servers

Hello viewers. I’m your favorite host, Makayla. Today we are going to be talking about a very unique issue. Process serving is far from the cut-and-dried job it may seem. Serving legal documents often leads servers into unexpected and sometimes hazardous situations. Surprisingly enough, however, cats have managed to pose some pretty daunting challenges with their agility, territorial nature, and stealth. Far from the aloof and detached creatures they are often made out to be, these feline encounters reveal their surprisingly combative side as they guard doorways, hiss at intruders, or even make daring leaps to defend their turf. Reach out for the services of a Process Server in OKC; you can call us at (405) 435-8355.

The Maine Coon Defender

In the suburbs, a process server was trying to work his way up to the house of a receiver with legal papers in hand. From behind the flower pot on the porch step came a large Maine Coon with its bushy tail up like a warning flag. Hissing loudly and refusing to back down as the server tried inching closer, the cat launched itself at the outstretched hand with claws out. Frightened and bleeding from scratches the server beat a retreat, leaving the papers on a chair. Afterward, the receiver declared a gust of wind blew them away, though the server thought the cat tore them to pieces out of loyalty for its master.

The Siamese Strike

In one apartment building in the city, a server encountered an unexpected aggressor. As the server knocked, the recipient’s door partially opened, and a slinky Siamese cat stood glaring at the visitor. Before the server could utter one word of identification, the feline dashed out and lashed at the messenger pouch in which the server was carrying papers. The cat was wrestling the pouch as if it were prey and tore the papers inside. A baffled server was still able to drop what remained of the papers at the door. The recipient called later to complain about the “condition” of the papers.

A Ferocious Feral Frenzy

The address was located down an alleyway full of lines of garbage cans belonging to a person reportedly feeding stray cats. It was infested with large and small cats, short and long, fat and thin, black, white, brown, gray, and tabby. By the time he got to the address, the cats, hissing, circled him like wolves, one ambitious tabby jumping onto the server’s back, digging his claws into his shoulder blades while yowling loudly. Yet another swatted at the envelope, causing scattered papers everywhere. The poor server got away with her bag intact. She only asked for a police escort for safety the next day to deliver the documents.

Persian Paws of Fury

One was a large house on the outskirts of the town, in the window of which a huge Persian cat lay sleeping. The server tried to knock on the door but was met at the pouch by the cat. The cat promptly swept the documents onto the floor, on top of which it jumped, commencing to tear them up with its claws. Any attempt to retrieve the documents was met by a swipe of the hand. After a great deal of endeavor, finally, the papers were served, though by no means uneventfully and with very identifiable cat scratches.

A Barn Cat Ambush

The server had to work his way across a farm in a rural area to serve an elusive defendant. As the server entered the barn, a slight rustling was heard above his head. From that rafter above, a tabby leaped onto the shoulders of the server. Its claws clung deep into his jacket as it hissed and refused to let go. The defendant appeared from the shadows and, laughing, told the server to leave. The documents were then taped to the barn door as the server ran away, still shaken from the encounter.

Calico Chaos on the Porch

Another feline mishap occurred on the wraparound porch of a picturesque home. As the process server climbed up the steps, a calico cat leaped out from under a chair and wove in and out of the server’s legs, sending him crashing down the steps and scattering the papers across the porch. The cat then jumped onto the papers, batting them playfully around the porch. The server didn’t gather them up until the recipient had locked the door and refused to come out. The papers were left in the mailbox, but it couldn’t help but feel outsmarted by the cunning feline.

Bengal’s Midnight Misadventure

Late one night, a process server attempted to finish a delivery at a gated property. A wild Bengal cat made his night a living hell. The sleek, spotted cat was stalking through the bushes, illuminated by the flashlight of the server. As the server approached the house, the Bengal sprang at the light, knocking it out of the server’s hand and into a ditch. In the confusion, the cat batted at the papers, managing to tear one corner before darting away. The server finally delivered the documents but was thereafter wary about going onto properties at night.

Conclusion

Serving legal documents is often seen as an easy task but one that often requires tenacity, professionalism, and a good dose of tact. Yet it’s not just unwilling recipients that make the job tough at times; sometimes, even the animals play a surprisingly complicated role in the equation. These stories both illustrate the peculiar challenges of the job and expose the unwarranted humor and dangers involved in what would appear to be a mundane profession. For process servers, every door could open to a memorable encounter. Maybe not just with the person intended to receive the paper but also with his or her fiercely protective pets.
